The Blood Mask

This is my entry to My FX weekly Challenge # 148 'Masquerade' at the ImagineFx magazine forum. Another in my series of the West that never was. This is one of Sheriff Cal's close friends John Littlemoon. John's tracking something nasty from that uses an artifact called the Blood Mask. The tribes from the far south, long ago tried to conquer the tribes of the great plains and used blood magic in there war. The people of the plains united and brought forth the great shaman and warriors of their own into play beating back the invading hoard. But some of there weapons were left behind. The blood mask being one of the worst.universe will open doors for you where there were only walls”

Bad Omen

This is a completed version of the image I created for The MyFX challenge #124 Bad Omen. It won for that week in a very close rac with some other Great artist who entered.

I reused a character that I created for Ace in The Hole, Cal. Now when cal was a young girl her mother went missing after a lot of peculiar events took place in town. She never was found and young Cal was left in the care of her mothers best friend and business partner Black Pearl. After a while they found in Miss Cal's mothers things this odd deck of cards. How odd no one knew til Pearl's great granma saw them. They was a deck of cards soaked in magic. Deep magic. Old magic. Mostly the cards could be used to see the immediate future, but they could be used in other ways if one knew how. Any way this here time the cards ,based on a card reading system called ARCANA ARCANORUM, told of a werebeast, a cat thing and how cal had to take charge if we were to survive.

Here follows meanings of the Cards

FOUR OF SPADES: FREEDOM: Lifting of oppression; the inner power of the individual stands unchained.

QUEEN OF CLUBS: EQUILIBRIUM, The essential balance of the Universe. All was once in Equilibrium; one day, all will return.

ACE OF DIAMONDS: MATERIALITY, The physical; the temptations.

Junnie and Gizmo

Junnie & Gismo on the Hunters Moon
This is my entry for the weekly ImangineFX forum challenge #129 FAITHFUL COMPANION. I used two of the characters I have long dreamed of using for a comic book for the subjects. Junnie and Gizmo. Junnie is a genetically enhanced boy. JUNNIE stands for Juno Unlimited Neo Natal Induced Evolution. Gizmo is a cybernetic dog, part flesh, part machine. together they are trouble. Wanted to go for a retro cold war era look for the settings and characters.

Some good reading material

Recently finished two books on wildly different subjects. The first was "Shutter Island," written by Dennis Lehane. A widowed, U.S. Marshall, Teddy Daniels, is sent to a military facility turned mental asylum/hospital/prison, located on a isolated of the coast of Massachusetts. Suffering from migraines, depression and obsession, plus saddled with a new partner, Teddy goes in search of a missing patient. But there is much more going on than a hunt for a missing person. This was a gripping read that I could hardly put down, with a great pretzel twist of an ending. I think the writer did a great job of capturing the 1950s era. I'm actually looking forward to the Movie.

the second book that wasn't nearly as serious but a heck of a lot of fun is "Soulless."
the author has written a book as delicious as one of Victorian the tea carts of the upper class her heroine so loves.
Alexia Tarabotti is a spinster, a child of a first marriage to an Italian and soulless.
This makes her the perfect weapon and the perfect target for werewolves, vampires and oh my, mad scientists. upon opening the book Miss Tarabotti is set upon by a vampire, and killing him with her parasol. And things seem to get much worse for her when the head of the local werewolf clan, Lord Maccon, steps in to investigate.

This pseudo-steampunk comedy is just plain fun ant I can't wait for the next book, due next year.
